well, anyway...

my tuition kid asked me a question today,

"teacher, why can't everything in the world be free? won't the world be a much better place?"

i would like to tell him, yes indeed, people are crazy obsessed with money these days, this thing; entirely man-made, yet has its roots sink into all our bloodstreams, make us addicts/slaves and thirsty for more and more of it. probably not the possesion of the pieces of paper which are in constant circulation of all and sundry, but the power/beauty/fun/chicks/dicks/fame that come in these little colorful notes. can it really be worthy of anyone dying due to the lack of it (or lack of more of it?)

it's truly sad when people are deprived of the very basic human conditions like shelter, food, warmth and even water due to the lack of money. i am not anti-capitalism but surely, there must be something fundamentally wrong about the fact that even with today's technology, GM and all, there must be more than enough food going around for everyone in the world but it just isn't happening. how can people and most innocent of all, children, be allowed to starve to death just because of this thing called money? are lives then determined and undermined by this invention of mankind?
well, despite all that, no i'm not prepared to let go of this concept of money and donate my life savings to Oxfam and burn all the cash that i have like Alexander Supertramp. however, i'm aware that i should honestly be very contended with my life, knowing that i came to this world with nothing, and should i have fulfilled most of Maslow's needs everyday, my life has been well-furnished and there's nothing much to complain of. well, looks like i'm capable of asking questions and not apt in answering or fixing any.
but, perhaps the world would just be better if there were more contended people.
